Piedmont
About Piedmont
In 1903 the city of Piedmont was founded on land homesteaded by Mr. James Dean during the Unassigned Land Run of April 22, 1889. Founders settled on the name “Piedmont" declaring it to be located at “the foot of the hills.” On January 1,1904 a train load of gravel was brought to the brand new mill station and the town of Piedmont was officially alive!
Residents of Piedmont are resilient, standing firm through the Great Depression, World War II and post war recovery. Then the town began growing when people filtered in from the big city in search of a slower pace and smaller schools. Besides ranking high in agriculture and livestock production, Canadian County gained the reputation of a low-risk oil and gas exploration area, and oil rigs started to spring up all over the area.
Piedmont has seen a tremendous amount of growth since the construction of the travel corridor in Oklahoma. One of the fastest-growing cities in the state, its population has increased to nearly 7,000 residents. Today it is a modern Home Rule City served by a council-manager government and provides everything families needs for prairie dwelling with big city convenience.
